[SMM Survey] Hydrogen Energy Weekly Electrolyzer Industry Review, 2025-2026

Capacity-wise, according to incomplete statistics, the domestic alkaline electrolyzer market remains at 43.77 GW, with no new capacity added.

This week, there are no offline public delivery data for electrolyzers.

Previous deliveries:

Cummins' subsidiary Accelera delivered a 35 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis system to Linde Group's green hydrogen plant under construction in Niagara Falls, New York.

Guofu Hydrogen successfully shipped a 10 Nm³/h hydrogen production unit and a 10 kW fuel cell combined heat and power system to the Clean Hydrogen Center of Excellence in Morocco.

Parr Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the 718th Research Institute of CSIC, completed the final transportation and loading of ten 1000 Nm³/h electrolyzers totaling 50 MW, which were officially shipped from Lianyungang Port to Piraeus Port, Greece.

The 10000 Nm³/h electrolyzer that Sany Hydrogen won for the Shenzhen Energy Ordos wind and solar power generation integrated green ammonia synthesis project was smoothly dispatched.

Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. officially started shipping 13 self-developed 1000 Nm³/h electrolyzers, which will be successively delivered to the Guohua Cangzhou "Green Port Hydrogen City" project.

Guofu Hydrogen has successfully shipped 50 Nm³/h water electrolysis products for the TNB-PCSS green hydrogen demonstration project of the Malaysian national grid to Shanghai Port.

Winstar Hydrogen's AEM hydrogen production system was successfully shipped to Austria.

As of September 25, 2025, domestic enterprises (including overseas deliveries) delivered a total of 365.85 MW of alkaline electrolyzers in Q2 (data sourced from public information and SMM survey statistics).

Electrolyzer project updates:

1. Zhongtian Hechuang Energy Co., Ltd. initiated the bidding process for energy conservation assessment, carbon emission evaluation, and other preliminary work for the second phase of the Wushen Banner wind and solar power generation integrated hydrogen production project planned in Wushen Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia.The project is planned to produce 20,000 tons/year of green hydrogen and 100,000 tons/year of green ammonia.2. Zhongrong New Energy Co., Ltd. has determined the supplier for the hydrogen electrolyzer equipment for the 1.8 million tons/year fine chemicals and 4,000 tons/year battery fuel hydrogen multiproduction project planned in Kekedala Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xinjiang.

The project plans to build a 4,000 tons/year fuel cell hydrogen production line using both "coal-to-syngas + PSA hydrogen extraction" and "green electricity water electrolysis" dual-path hydrogen production methods.3. China Coal Inner Mongolia Energy Co., Ltd. issued multiple tender announcements involving equipment procurement and engineering design for the China Coal Linxi County wind and solar power generation coupled with biomass green methanol demonstration project planned in Linxi County, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia.

The project plans to build a 100,000 tons/year green methanol production line and 7,900 tons/year green hydrogen.

4. Songyuan Tianying Green Energy Chemical New Materials Co., Ltd. entered the filing stage for the Songyuan Tianying wind, solar, storage, hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol integration project planned in Songyuan Petrochemical Park, Jilin Province.The project is planned to produce 500,000 tons/year of green methanol, constructed in two phases; Phase I: 150,000 tons/year, Phase II: 350,000 tons/year.5. Huadian Tuoyang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. in Inner Mongolia entered the wind measurement service quotation procurement stage for the International Hydrogen Metallurgy and Chemical Industry Demonstration Zone new energy hydrogen production and carbon-free fuel supporting wind and solar power generation integration demonstration project planned in Bayinhua Town, Damao Banner, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia.

The project plans to produce 28,000 tons/year of green hydrogen, with a hydrogen production capacity of 58,800 Nm³/h, using alkaline electrolyzer technology, and will be equipped with a 30,000 Nm³ hydrogen storage tank.6. China Coal Pingluo Group Co., Ltd. entered the EPC general contracting bidding stage for the green hydrogen coupling chemical part of the first phase of the 600 MW off-grid renewable energy hydrogen production project in the coal mining subsidence area of Pingluo District, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province.

The project includes 2.2 million tons/year of coal-to-methanol, 1 million tons/year of coal-based olefins, and 27,700 tons/year of green hydrogen, etc.7. Hebei Guochuang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. entered the EPC general contracting winning bid announcement stage for the first phase of the wind-hydrogen integration generation-grid-load-storage comprehensive demonstration project planned in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province.

The project plans to produce 10,000 tons/year of green hydrogen.

Policy Review

The first energy industry hydrogen standard, NB/T11810-2025 "Regulations for the Preparation of Renewable Energy Power-to-Hydrogen Engineering Planning Report," compiled by the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, was officially released and will be implemented starting December 30, 2025.
The European Commission approved a €4 billion electrolyzer special fund, providing a 30% equipment cost subsidy for projects with an annual capacity of ≥500 MW, and set a 2030 efficiency target for green hydrogen project electrolyzers of ≥60% (LHV basis).
The European Commission issued the "Clean Industrial Protocol State Aid Framework," which explicitly requires member states to prioritize support for "renewable fuels of non-biological origin" (RFNBOs) and ensures public resources are directed toward low-carbon technologies through details such as fund allocation ratios and project timelines.

Corporate Dynamics

   1. Guizhou Hydrogen Energy Efficiency Energy Technology Co., Ltd. 15% equity transfer information, with a transfer base price of 8.0555 million yuan, and the transferor is Guiyang Economic Development Zone Industrial Development Investment Holding (Group) Co., Ltd.

   2. Aerospace Hydrogen Energy (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd. completed a capital increase, with Aerospace Investment Holding Co., Ltd. contributing 50 million yuan for a 24.33000% stake.

   3. Foreign media reported that General Motors has decided to cancel its next-generation fuel cell R&D project and shelve plans to build a $55 million plant in Detroit, US. The company stated that after evaluation, it believes there is currently no viable development path for this emerging power technology.

   4. Aerospace Cangzhou Energy and Environmental Protection Innovation Research Institute was appointed as a member unit of the MIIT Manufacturing Pilot Standardization Technical Committee.

   5. Guofu Hydrogen Energy and China Coal Green Energy Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. conducted in-depth discussions regarding the Ulanqab wind-solar-hydrogen integrated project, reaching a consensus to establish a strategic cooperation in green hydrogen production and sales.

   6. Hu Yuting, Deputy Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee and Governor, revisited the China Tianying Liaoyuan Hydrogen-Based Energy Integration Project and the Laodaoshan Gravity Energy Storage Project site for a field trip.

   7. CSIC Peric signed a supply contract for a 500 Nm³/h hydrogen production equipment with a gas company in Pakistan.

Patent Applications

1. Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) disclosed patent CN2025110028, developing a ceramic-based anion exchange membrane with a laboratory test lifespan reaching 80,000 hours.

2. Johnson Matthey (UK) submitted patent WO2025109876, disclosing an Fe-Ni-Mo ternary non-precious metal catalyst formulation with activity close to platinum-based materials.

Technology Footprints/Specifications

1. China Association for Promoting International Development (CAPID) officially released the group standard "Multi-Pulse Thyristor Rectifiers for Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production" (Standard Number T/CAPID013—2025). This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, packaging, transportation, and storage of multi-pulse thyristor rectifiers for water electrolysis hydrogen production.

2. Hefei Zhongneng Dayou Energy Technology Co., Ltd. successfully developed a 100 kW-class PEM electrolyzer hydrogen production multi-field coupling test equipment.

3. GKN Powder Metallurgy announced the development of a new generation of high-performance, high-porosity, high-purity porous transport layers (HP-PTL) for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis.

4. The first 220 kW high-safety solid-state hydrogen storage fuel cell emergency power generation system was officially launched and put into application demonstration at the Microgrid Optimal Connection Wi-Fi Smart Terminal Industrial Park. This achievement marks a major breakthrough in China's core equipment localization in the hydrogen energy emergency power supply field.

5. Tongda Electromagnetic Energy Co., Ltd. independently developed and manufactured China's first off-grid medium-voltage DC 20 kV direct-hanging hydrogen production power supply (also known as "Hydrogen Yuan 1") successfully applied.

6. Nel Hydrogen (Norway) released the new-generation PEM electrolyzer HySyner500, with current density increased to 5 A/cm² and material cost per unit capacity reduced by 22%.

7. The sea trial of the offshore wind power PEM hydrogen production and storage system delivered by Shanghai Huisheng Chuanghe Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was successfully conducted at the offshore test site in Sanya Yazhou Bay.

8. Hunan Longshen Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. launched a PEM water electrolysis sheet extrusion coater, significantly reducing expensive catalyst raw material costs.

9. The kick-off meeting for the Guangdong Provincial Key R&D Program flagship project in the "New-Type Energy Storage and New Energy" field—"Split Module-Type Seawater Direct Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Without Desalination Technology and System Equipment" R&D project was grandly held at Shenzhen University.
